👋🏻 Hello Reader...!

A lot is happening around the world right now. Here in Texas, where I live, we're facing a serious flooding crisis. Many families have been displaced, and the damage is heartbreaking. Our prayers and thoughts are with everyone affected. If you head out for a run this week, dedicate it to Texas—run with intention, run for hope.

In brighter news, Faith Kipyegon continues to inspire us all. She’s broken yet another world record in the 1,500 meters and shows no signs of slowing down. We’ll dive into her incredible performance—and a few other records—down in the running news section below.

And of course, Happy (belated) 4th of July to all who celebrated! This weekend reminded us that running is more than a sport—it’s freedom. In some parts of the world, women can’t even go for a run in public. Just think about that. I’m proudly pro-woman, and I’ll support female runners with everything I can. I have a mother, a sister, a wife, and a daughter—and I want each of them to thrive. My mom was an athlete herself (in shooting), and I’m so proud of her. Here's a picture of her! 🙌🏽

So yes—today’s topic couldn’t be more fitting. Let’s talk about the power of community in running.

🤝 The Power of Community: Joining Local and Virtual Running Groups

Running is often called a solo sport, but behind every strong runner is a stronger community. Whether it's a weekly group run or a message thread that cheers you on, surrounding yourself with fellow runners transforms your training—and your mindset.

🏡 1. Local Running Groups: Your People, Your Pace

  • Running clubs give structure and accountability. There’s something powerful about knowing someone is waiting for you at 6:00 a.m.
  • You get real-time feedback on pacing, form, and racing strategies.
  • Many clubs offer beginner, intermediate, and advanced paces—there’s a space for everyone.

🌐 2. Virtual Communities: Always Within Reach

  • Apps like Strava, WhatsApp, Facebook Groups, or TrainingPeaks groups provide a sense of belonging across cities and countries.
  • A virtual “like” or comment can go a long way on tough training days.
  • Especially helpful for those with non-traditional schedules or limited access to in-person meetups.

💬 3. Start Your Own

  • Can’t find a group that fits? Start one. Two friends on a run = a running group.
  • Choose a weekly meet-up, define a pace range, and spread the word.
  • Your effort could bring people together who’ve been waiting for that first invitation.

💡 4. Diversity Makes Us Stronger

  • Encourage inclusive spaces. Make sure your group is welcoming to runners of all backgrounds, ages, sizes, and identities.
  • Representation matters. Support leadership from women and runners of all cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Promote respectful and inclusive environments that honor the dignity of men and women as uniquely created, with equal value and purpose in both sport and society.

Today's Quote
"Three qualities that have nothing to do with talent or intelligence, but can make a dramatic impact on your results:
- Cheerful. You are pleasant to work with and generally raise the level of energy in the room.
- Accountable. You feel personally responsible for what you want to accomplish. It is not someone else's job. It's your job.
- Adaptable. You can find alternate paths to success. You don't need things to be a certain way to be happy." James Clear.
