Happy Tuesday Reader...!
I hope you survived Back-to-Class Monday! 😂 My morning runs just took a new turn — from 5:30 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. — so I can fit it all in before school prep begins. Picture this: I finish my run, try to stretch (well, I didn’t), down my protein shake, shower, and then launch into the morning rush of packing lunches and getting the kids ready for school.
Early runs come with new challenges: running in the dark, watching for cars, dodging street holes, and yes… even the occasional coyote sighting. Nothing about this is easy, but here’s the thing: just like we need to be aware of our surroundings, we also need to be aware of our impact on the earth.
Today’s edition is all about running sustainably — because the planet we run on needs as much care as our training plans.

🌿 Sustainability in Running — Eco-Friendly Gear and Practices
As runners and cyclists, our playground is the outdoors. Protecting it means making choices that reduce waste, conserve resources, and leave our routes just as beautiful for the next runner.
Here’s how we can make a difference:
1️⃣ Choose Eco-Friendly Gear
Look for brands using recycled materials, like shoes made with plastic-free uppers or apparel from recycled polyester.
Example brands: Allbirds, On Running, Adidas Parley (shoes made with ocean plastic).
2️⃣ Reduce Race Day Waste
Bring a reusable water bottle or cup for races and long runs.
Opt out of single-use bags and pick up your own trash. Every gel wrapper matters!
3️⃣ Donate or Recycle Old Shoes
Give your old pairs a second life through programs like Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe or local donation drives.
Worn shoes can become playground material, tracks, or be given to runners in need.
4️⃣ Go Paperless & Minimal
Use digital bibs or QR codes when races offer them.
Reuse safety pins, race belts, and gear whenever possible.
5️⃣ Advocate & Educate
Encourage your local races to eliminate plastic cups or offer compostable options.
Share your journey on social — not to show off, but to inspire awareness in your running community.

"Chase your desired lifestyle, not your desired title. People are blinded by status and labels. Once you release the need for a specific title, there is almost always an easier path to living your preferred lifestyle."
