Endurance Mindset now speaks your language
A subscriber reached out asking for the English version — and they were right. Starting today, we send two emails: one in Spanish, one in English. Each one arrives in the language you prefer. Thank you, Hemant — I replied to you directly, and that's why this now exists.

👋🏻 Hey Reader!
Reading time: 5 min · English edition · D-9 to MMB
D-9. Nine days out. We've talked about altitude physiology. We've walked the course kilometer by kilometer. Today it gets concrete: your exact pace per kilometer by goal time — and the gel protocol the science backs for getting to the finish line, not the medical tent.
I've seen runners with months of solid training blow up the MMB in the first 8 minutes. And I've seen runners with modest preparation execute a perfect race because they had the discipline to go out slow. Altitude doesn't negotiate — but your strategy can beat it.

The mistake that ruins everything
🚨 Going out too fast
|
The first 5K feel incredible. The crowd, the adrenaline, the cool Bogotá air. You're flying. And at KM 15, you're walking.
The optimal strategy is a softened negative split: finish the last 10K equal to or slightly faster than the first 11K. Recommended effort distribution:
|
Section |
Effort |
KM 1–5 |
98-100% goal pace — active restraint |
KM 6–11 |
100% goal pace |
KM 12–17 |
100-102% — RPE rises, pace stays |
KM 18–21.1 |

The 4 golden rules:
→ Never a gel without water — minimum 150-200ml per gel
→ Train your gut first — don't try gels for the first time on race day
→ Start before you need it — take your first gel while you still feel good
→ Caffeine gel at KM 14-16 — when perceived effort starts to climb

📚 Spanish vocabulary · Running terms you'll hear in Bogotá
The Spanish running world uses these — now you'll understand them too:
Ritmo / pace → pace, running pace |
La pájara / el muro → bonking / hitting the wall |
Punto de avituallamiento → aid station |
Esfuerzo percibido → RPE (Rate of Perceived Exertion) |
Marca personal → PR / personal record |
Carga de carbohidratos → carb loading |
¡Vamos! / ¡Dale! → Let's go! / Come on! (what the Bogotá crowd will shout at you) |
|
|
|
The second half of your race is won in the first 10K. Discipline now — speed later.
